Highlights from Presentation:
- Must earn a Bachelors Degree before going to Law School. (Can earn your Bachelor's degree in anything you are interested in)
- Must take the LSAT before applying to Law Schools.
- Once you finish the coursework of Law School, you must take the Bar Exam, in order to be a practicing Lawyer, you must pass the Bar Exam.
- Bar Exam could be STATE SPECIFIC - which only allows you to practice Law in a specific state.
- You could take the Uniform Bar Exam - which would allow you to practice Law in multiple states. (Uniform Bar Exam not available in all states)
- You DO NOT need to know what type of Law you want to practice before starting Law School, you can make this decision at a later time (& you can change you mind once you start practicing Law).
- A career in Law does NOT look like it does on TV. Most Lawyers do NOT spend a majority of their time in Court. A lot of time is spent in the office.
- You can work for the government or you can work in private practice. Salary/Benefits may depend on where you are practicing Law.
- As a Lawyer, you are helping people through some of the worst periods of their life. TAKING CARE OF YOUR OWN MENTAL HEALTH IS ESSENTIAL.
